StandUp SpeakOut of North Carolina (SUSO-NC) was founded in 2004 by Monica Daye—a visionary leader, author, poet, healing arts practitioner, and lifelong advocate for survivors. What began as her personal mission has grown into a movement to break the cycle of domestic violence and sexual assault, building healed and healthy communities through creativity, advocacy, and compassionate care.
At the heart of SUSO-NC is The Home for Healing, a Durham-based sanctuary where individuals find safety, connection, and growth.
Our Mission is to provide direct care and outreach advocacy for families, child survivors, and witnesses of gender-based violence through holistic, therapeutic services rooted in Integrative Art Intervention.
Through our transformative Healing Through Art model, we combine outreach and prevention, counseling, resilience coaching, and mentoring to help survivors, youth, and families reclaim their voice, worth, and power.
Our services include mental health counseling, therapeutic support groups, mentoring, case management, and prevention education—delivered by a dedicated network of licensed therapists, social workers, community outreach specialists, volunteers, and interns. Together, we are not only helping survivors heal—we are cultivating a future where every person can live free from violence, rooted in strength, and supported by a community that believes in their power to thrive.
